Separating Solopreneurs

Are you a solopreneur?

Across the country and around the world, tens of millions of people are running small businesses single-handedly, with zero payroll or overhead expense.

One of the biggest challenges of this path is separating yourself from larger competitors in the marketplace, elevating your personal brand in the mind of your prospects.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to join Peter Baldwin of MarketForce Strategies in a panel discussion at the Alexandria Small Business Development Center, before a roomful of people running their own coaching, consulting and service businesses without benefit of staff.

The moderator, Bill Reagan, Director of the SBDC, was asking Peter and me how we would advise the participants tackle this challenge.

My response was that the most effective way for a solopreneur to separate him or herself from competition of any size is to employ Digital Media Positioning.

Get clear on whom you serve, what problem you solve for them and what makes your solution uniquely effective. Then share your knowledge far and wide at no charge using videos, blogs, social media, books and speaking engagements.

In support of that message, I provided all of the participants with a digital copy of my book on the topic.

If you’re a solopreneur facing this challenge, I would be happy to do the same for you. Just request your copy by reply email.

Each of us is already unique. But sometimes we need to do a better job of communicating that uniqueness to our target market.

Let me know if I can help you do that.
