Friends don’t let friends shoot vertical videos.
At least that’s an idea I’ve been trying to promote for the last ten years.
After all, our eyes are positioned left-and-right, not up-and-down.
Isn’t that right, Flounder?
Recently, however, I’ve come around to the idea that, while widescreen (16:9) format is great for watching on your tablet, PC, or flat screen TV, it’s not always the best when viewing video on your phone.
That doesn’t mean I’m ready to start producing vertical videos any time soon. I haven’t gone crazy just yet.
But I am willing to meet you halfway, as evidenced by the square (1:1 aspect ratio) video shown above.
I’m starting to like the square format because it allows me to place a regular 16:9 video into a square “meme card” with a big, eye-catching headline at the top and room for burned-in captions at the bottom.
Please click this link to open the video and watch it on your phone and PC.
Then reply to this email and let me know what you think.
Are you starting to believe, like I am, that square can be cool? Or are you still a widescreen Luddite?
Maybe you’re one of these young whippersnappers that believes it’s vertical or nothing when it comes to presenting video on a phone?
Please let me know. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think!
