Marketing Who You Are vs What You Do

How much attention do you pay to Search Engine Optimization?

You can spend a fortune on SEO, securing and defending a spot on the front page of Google for search terms that describe What You Do:

  • Divorce Lawyer Seattle
  • Teeth Whitening Houston
  • Chiropractor Sacramento
  • Executive Coach DC

The assumption is that marketing What You Do will attract large numbers of A-List Clients. People will FIND me and then BUY from me, right?

Wrong. Because they also find your 15 top competitors on the same page.

Besides, being found is only half the battle. What you really want is to be chosen.

Buyers don’t immediately call the first result they find. After they’ve learned What You Do, they still want to know more about Who You Are.

That’s when they run a search on your name.

The same holds true for referrals. If your neighbor were to recommended an interior designer to you, would you immediately pick up the phone or do some further online research on the designer’s name before you called?

If you are succeed in online marketing, you need to make sure that the result of any search on your name is that you are the easy choice, the obvious go-to solution.

Take a moment right now to Google yourself, your name. If the search result doesn’t include all the great stuff that people should know about you, give me a call.

“Who You Are Marketing” is what we do here at Digital Media Positioning.
